Barefoot Shoes : The Technology
The best technology to go inside a shoe is the foot. Till date, there is no footwear design that beats what 26 bones, hundreds of muscles, tendons, nerves bring to locomotion.
Despite that, we put our feet in cushioned prisons that change our biomechanics, and in the long term, always for the worse.
Here is what barefoot shoes bring to the table -
an anatomical toe box so your toes don’t feel cramped and can spread naturally
a flat, thin and flexible sole so you can feel the ground and stand upright
a lightweight shoe with minimal cushion so natural movement is not disrupted
And that is about it.
Barefoot shoes are not technology, rather the absence of technology, so your natural systems can fire correctly and tackle whatever challenge comes your way.
With the regular shoes we wear, our foot shape changes, our balance becomes worse, our nervous system does not get enough data from the ground to adapt to our actual natural surroundings.
We don’t give ourselves enough credit, our bodies enough credit to be able to handle and manage the nature we have built. We think concrete is bad for us, plan surfaces are bad for us.
What is worse is lack of total movement, lack of challenge for our muscles and tendons and ligaments.
Being barefoot not only helps you with your feet, but also in the way you move overall. Movement freedom is super important and what we should strive for as long as we are living.
