Shoes for Pickleball

Shoes for Pickleball

Pickleball is growing as a sport like wildfire.
If you haven't had a chance at it, I would highly recommend it.
The interesting ball dynamics, small courts, fun rules make it a total blast.

Now unlike a lot of indoor sports however, pickleball courts are not made with cushioned synthetic materials. Rather, in most places around India, it is a cemented court.
Quick direction changes in these environments mean high stress on your ankles, your knees and your entire posterior chain, and that is why you need the right setup.

To prevent chances of injuries, here is what you should do -
1. Proper warm up - make sure your body is ready for the high impact. Do plyo jumps and ankle conditioning before stepping on the court.
2. Wear shoes that allow you to be in control.

To expand on point 2 -

Most shoes have too much cushion and too much heel elevation.
With cushion, the brain and the body are thrown off sync. Reacting to direction change in an instant becomes more difficult as a lot of your energy goes into the shoe, and doesnt translate to the ground directly.
With heel elevation, your posture changes. Your otherwise straight line body is pushed forward and your muscles overwork to continuously correct it.

Both these features make a cushioned shoe unfit for indoor sports and especially pickleball.

What you want is a flat shoe with ample toe room to actually use your toes for balance and power generation along with a relatively still or minimal sole so that you can transfer that power directly to the ground and get faster direction changes.

In the end of day, all sports require you to be in control. Make sure you are in equipment that lets you be. Zen Kairos does that exactly.

Zen Kairos are a perfect shoe for sports like pickleball. Try them out and feel the difference.
