Zero Drop Is A Friend Not A Foe
The human bodies are a marvel of engineering. Every small muscle, tendon, bone, working towards a super efficient system built for intelligence and mobility.
Over years of evolution, we have changed tremendously as a specie. From webbed feet to having toes, standing up straight, being able to run long distances. These are all adaptations that has led to the flourishment of our species.
Something has changed since the 1970s however. Our feet have the most nerve endings of all places in our body. This is so we can sense what kind of surface we move on.
With the invention of the cushioned shoe, that changes completely. Suddenly that awareness is not readily available and we rely on our eyes to judge and make an educated guess on how our step should be.
With the innovation of the elevated heel that is supposed to make walking easy, we have taken it too far.
Suddenly as we stand, our weight is shifted to the front of the foot. We are always in a slight tilt. To compensate for this, we have to pull ourselves back with our posterior chain, that is our calves, our hamstrings, our glutes, lower back and even the neck.
A small tilt at the bottom of the foot can create havoc for our entire nervous system because we are changing how we stand, how we move and undoing years of evolutionary work that the body has done to make us the way we are.
Barefoot shoes have a zero drop for this exact reason. To prevent our posterior muscles to be overworked, and our bodies to be less stiff.
Wear barefoot shoes so you can explore your natural posture and mobility.
